What is clear aligner?

If you have mild to moderate crowding or spacing of your teeth, you may be a candidate for Clear Aligner Therapy, like Invisalign. Impressions are taken of your teeth and a series of Clear Aligners are created by a dental laboratory, each one moves the teeth approximately .5mm over a two week period. Every two weeks, you change the Clear Aligners and your teeth are slowly moved, over time from crooked to straight. What is Straight Wire Orthodontics?

For patients with moderate to severely crooked teeth, SmileOn Dentistry may suggest that your teeth would be best straightened using what is called Straight Wire Orthodontics. This is basically the same technique that has been used by orthodontists for many years, however with the advancement of high tech metallurgy and white/tooth-colored brackets you can have your teeth straightened without the unappealing “metal braces” your friends had in junior high school.

Brackets, either metal or white, are then placed on the teeth and the Nickel Titanium archwire is threaded through each bracket.

As the Nickel Titanium archwire returns to its original ideal arch form, it pulls the teeth with it, so that after the teeth stop moving, their position relative to each other, is that of an ideal dental arch.

How long do the results last?

All patients who undergo any kind of tooth moving orthodontic treatment need to wear retainers. Initially, you will need to wear your retainers all the time, but shortly thereafter, you will switch to just wearing your retainers at night. If you wear your retainers as prescribed by SmileOn Dentistry, have regular check-ups and get your teeth cleaned on a regular basis, your straight teeth should last a lifetime.
